Phil Austin, a renowned comedian and writer, was born on April 6, 1941, in Denver, Colorado. He later moved to Fresno, California, where he attended Fresno High School. Austin's educational background includes attending Bowdoin College and UCLA. In the late 1960s, he joined the staff of KPFK radio in Los Angeles.
Austin is particularly famous for his work as a member of The Firesign Theatre, where he has been the only constant member throughout the group's history. Within the troupe, he is best known for his portrayal of the iconic character Nick Danger. Additionally, he has played notable roles such as Harry (Happy) Cox, the narrator of Everything You Know Is Wrong, and Bebop Loco/Lobo in Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death.
Austin's multifaceted talents extend to music, as he serves as the troupe's musician and record producer. His literary endeavors include the publication of his collection of short stories, Tales of the Old Detective and Other Big Fat Lies, through Audio Editions. Two of his stories are featured in the third volume of Mirth of a Nation.
Austin has also written a solo work, Roller Maidens From Outer Space, and has ventured into directing and acting with his film, Eat Or Be Eaten.
