Nicholas Farrell, an accomplished English stage, film, and television actor, was born Nicholas Frost in 1955. His early screen career was marked by his role as Aubrey Montague in the 1981 film Chariots of Fire. In 1983, he took on the starring role of Edmund Bertram in a television adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Mansfield Park. The following year, he appeared in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes and The Jewel in the Crown.
Throughout his career, Farrell has been involved in numerous film and television adaptations of Shakespeare's works. One notable example is his portrayal of Horatio in Kenneth Branagh's 1996 film Hamlet, a role he had previously played with Branagh for the Royal Shakespeare Company. He has also appeared in film adaptations of Twelfth Night (1996),Othello (1995),and In the Bleak Midwinter (1995). Furthermore, he lent his voice to the animated television adaptation Shakespeare: The Animated Tales (1992),in which he played the role of Hamlet.
Farrell's television appearances have been diverse, including roles in two Agatha Christie's Poirot movies, Sharpe's Regiment, To Play the King, Torchwood, and Collision. He has also made guest appearances in episodes of Lovejoy, Foyle's War, Absolute Power, Spooks, Midsomer Murders, Drop the Dead Donkey, and Casualty.
In addition to his screen work, Farrell has had a successful theatre career, performing in productions such as The Cherry Orchard, Camille, and The Crucible. He has also been involved in several Royal Shakespeare Company productions, including The Merchant of Venice, Julius Caesar, and Hamlet.
Farrell is married to Scottish actress Stella Gonet.
