Neal Mulani, a burgeoning writer-director, hails from the suburbs surrounding Boston, where he draws inspiration for his autobiographical narratives centered on the queer experience. His unique upbringing, with a father from Mumbai and a mother from Boston, has instilled in him a profound understanding of cultural duality and the importance of storytelling in capturing the complexities of his experiences.
Neal's introduction to the art of storytelling began at a young age through his involvement in theater, which nurtured his appreciation for character development, storytelling, and improvisation. His work delves into themes of shame, self-perception, masculinity, and parenthood, all of which are intimately connected to the queer experience.
As a recent graduate of the esteemed Film & TV Production program at the University of Southern California, Neal has had the opportunity to hone his craft through collaborations with prominent companies such as Cinetic Media, Lionsgate, and Plan B Entertainment. Currently, he serves as an assistant to the Chairman of Universal.
Neal's cinematic endeavors have already garnered significant recognition, with his first film, FISH TANK, premiering in competition at the Independent Film Festival Boston before embarking on an international festival tour. His second short, FROM THE TOP, made its world premiere this summer at the Palm Springs International ShortFest, further solidifying his reputation as a talented and innovative filmmaker.
