Ornstein's early life and education were marked by a passion for acting, as he began studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City during his childhood. Under the guidance of the renowned Stella Adler, he honed his craft, laying the foundation for a successful career in the performing arts.
After completing high school, Ornstein furthered his education by enrolling in the prestigious Mason Gross School of the Arts. However, his artistic ambitions soon led him to abandon his studies after just one year, and he made the bold decision to relocate to New York City to pursue a professional acting career.
Ornstein's professional journey began with a minor role in the film Crossing Delancey, playing the character "Mickey". This initial foray into the world of cinema was soon followed by a string of television credits, including a recurring role as Detective Bonnaventura on Homicide: Life on the Street, a two-episode arc on Third Watch, and guest appearances on popular shows such as Seinfeld, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Ornstein's impressive stage acting credits span an impressive twenty-five years, with numerous new plays performed in New York City. He also had the distinction of creating the role of Louis Ironson in the 1991 World Premiere of Angels in America at the Eureka Theater in San Francisco.
In recent years, Ornstein has continued to showcase his versatility as an actor, taking on the role of Chuck Marstein in the popular television series Sons of Anarchy.
