Matthew was born and raised in the bustling metropolis of Toronto, Canada, where he spent his formative years. Following his graduation from Upper Canada College, he made the bold decision to relocate to London, where he underwent rigorous training at the renowned LAMDA and subsequently honed his craft at the esteemed Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts.
As his skills and confidence grew, Matthew began to make a name for himself in the UK theatre scene, taking on leading roles in productions such as 'The Miracle Worker' and 'The Boys in the Band' on the West End stage. His talent didn't go unnoticed, as he started landing film parts, including appearances in two films directed by the acclaimed Richard Attenborough, as well as a pivotal role in the blockbuster Saving Private Ryan (1998).
After a successful stint in the UK, Matthew returned to his hometown of Toronto in 1998, where he quickly secured a spot on the sketch comedy TV series History Bites (1998),earning a Gemini Television Award nomination in 2000. He also made guest appearances on various television shows, including 'Traders', 'The Associates', and 'Twice in a Lifetime'.
Matthew's breakthrough role came when he landed the part of Henry Guyrich in the blockbuster film X-Men (2000),a role that required him to undergo a remarkable transformation, morphing into Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.
In late 2001, Matthew made the move to Los Angeles, where he tied the knot with his beloved Tove Limm on September 28, 2001, in the picturesque setting of Hualalai, Hawaii.
