Mary Kay Bergman, born on June 5, 1961, was an American voice actress and voice-over teacher who is credited under the pseudonym Shannen Cassidy. With a career spanning over two decades, Bergman was the lead female voice actress on the popular adult animated series South Park from its debut in 1997 until her untimely death in 1999.
Throughout her illustrious career, Bergman lent her voice to over 400 television commercials and brought to life more than 100 cartoon, film, and video game characters. Her remarkable talent and dedication to her craft earned her a reputation as a versatile and accomplished voice actress.
Born in Los Angeles, Bergman's fascination with fantasy and animation began at a young age. She honed her acting skills through her involvement in high school plays and further pursued her passion for theater by studying at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
After facing challenges in securing on-screen acting roles, Bergman shifted her focus to voice-over work and began to make a name for herself in the industry. Her breakthrough role came in 1989 when she voiced the iconic character Snow White for Disney. In the 1990s, she went on to voice Daphne Blake in three films from the Scooby Doo franchise and Timmy Turner in the Oh Yeah! Cartoons.
Tragically, Bergman's life was cut short on November 11, 1999. In her memory, her husband Dino Andrade established the Mary Kay Bergman Memorial Fund, which continues to support her legacy and the art of voice-over acting.
