Leo Dickinson, a renowned British cameraman, director, and adventurer, was born in 1946 in Lancashire, UK. He spent his formative years attending Rossall Public School, where he developed a passion for climbing in the Lake District and North Wales. Dickinson's first alpine season in the Dolomites in 1966 marked the beginning of his illustrious career.
In 1970, he gained his first film backing with Yorkshire TV, which led to the creation of the award-winning film "Out of the Shadows into the Sun - The First Filmed Ascent of the 'Eiger'". This early success paved the way for a long and distinguished career in mountain, hot air balloon, skydiving, and underwater filmmaking.
Throughout his mountaineering career, Dickinson has filmed ascents on some of the world's most iconic mountains, including Mount Everest, Cima Grande di Laveredo, Civetta, Piz Badille, Matterhorn North Face, Eiger North Face, Cerro Torre, and Torre Egger. In 1991, he made history by filming the first-ever hot air balloon ride over Everest.
In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, Dickinson is also an accomplished author, having written three books that detail the stories of his remarkable career: "Filming the Impossible", "Anything is Possible", and "Ballooning over Everest". His work is characterized by his innovative use of unique camera angles, which has earned him numerous awards and world records.
Some of Dickinson's most notable achievements include skydiving from the highest platform in the world (on Everest),holding the record for the most naked women skydiving at the same time, and making over 3,500 jumps. He is also married to award-winning cameraman and adventurer Mandy, who has collaborated with him on numerous projects since 1981.
