Kiwi Chow Kwun-wai, a renowned Hong Kong-born filmmaker, came into this world in 1979. His educational background is rooted in the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA),where he honed his skills in directing. During his sophomore year, he created the short piece Nian in 2003, and his graduation project, Grandma's Room, earned him the Best Director award at his alma mater in 2004.
Upon graduating, Chow embarked on a journey in the film industry, taking on various roles such as continuity, assistant directing, and editing. He also lent his expertise as director and editor on the making-of feature of the martial arts film Fearless in 2006, as well as other films.
In 2005, Chow returned to HKAPA as a guest lecturer, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of filmmakers. Concurrently, he continued to produce short films, including the 16mm work Upstairs, which garnered accolades at numerous local and international film festivals. He also scripted and directed A Good Thing, Sensitive, and My White Balloon, all of which showcased his versatility as a filmmaker.
Chow's thirst for knowledge led him to pursue a Master's degree at HKAPA, which he completed in 2013. That same year, he wrapped up his debut feature, A Complicated Story, which premiered at the 37th Hong Kong International Film Festival, solidifying his position as a rising star in the Hong Kong film industry.
