Johan Renck is widely regarded as one of the most esteemed and in-demand directors of commercials and music videos, with the French publication CB News even dubbing him "the number one director of commercials and music videos in the world". His illustrious directing career commenced in 1992 when he joined the renowned production company Mekano Film and Television in Stockholm, Sweden.
In 1994, Renck made the bold decision to leave Mekano and join forces with his childhood friend and fellow director, Jonas Åkerlund. Together, they established a new production company, Renck Åkerlund Films, which swiftly rose to prominence as one of the leading production companies its of kind in Sweden.
During this period, Renck also devoted a significant amount of time to his music project, Stakka Bo, which enjoyed considerable success. His dual pursuits as a musician and director often led to a demanding schedule, with Renck dividing his time between the two creative endeavors.
However, in 1997, Renck made the decision to focus on his directing career full-time, and his reputation as a world-class director quickly began to spread globally. By 1999, he was working with an impressive array of high-profile clients, including the iconic pop star Madonna and the global sports brand Nike, among others.
