Biography

Jayil's journey in the film industry began after he graduated from New York University with a degree in film production, paving the way for a successful career as a director of commercials, music videos, and short films in both the United States and South Korea.

As his reputation grew, Jayil's works started to make a significant impact in the global film festival circuit, with over 100 of his films being showcased and garnering more than 50 prestigious awards worldwide.

One of his most notable works is the short film Georgia, which premiered in 2020 and went on to win the Best Short award at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival. Georgia also received a nomination for a Korean Oscar and was featured in The New Yorker's Screening Room Video Series, solidifying its status as a standout in the world of short films.

In fact, Georgia was ranked sixth on Screen Rant's list of the 10 Best Short Films Ever Made, according to Letterboxd, a testament to its enduring impact on the industry.

In addition to his impressive body of work, Jayil has recently ventured into the world of documentary filmmaking, directing a Disney+ original documentary series about the K-pop sensation NCT 127, set to premiere on August 30th, 2023.
