Gary P. Cohen is the esteemed producing director of Plays-in-the-Park, a renowned summer theater in New Jersey, where he has had the privilege of directing over fifty plays and musicals. Prior to joining Plays-in-the-Park in the 1980s, Cohen founded a 100-seat semiprofessional theater in the early 1970s, where he refined his craft and gained valuable experience.
In addition to his work in community theater, Cohen is also a published author. His book, The Community Theater Handbook, was released by Heinemann in 2003. Furthermore, he has co-authored several notable productions, including Off-B'way's Frankenstein, A New Musical and A High School Monster Musical with Mark Baron, as well as The Reluctant Dragon.
Before turning his focus to theater, Cohen worked as a William Morris agent. Interestingly, he has also ventured into the world of filmmaking, writing and directing three cult shot-on-video horror films in the 1980s: Video Violence, Video Violence Il, and Captives. These films are currently available on DVD and Blu-ray.
