Biography

Donnie MacLeod, a renowned figure in the Gaelic world, is closely associated with his band Na h-Òganaich and the popular children's television program Dòtaman.

Born into a family from the Isle of Lewis, Donnie spent his formative years in Peterhead before embarking on a journey that would take him to the high seas. He joined the Merchant Navy, where he spent time away from dry land, but his experiences would later influence his music.

Upon his return to land, Donnie found a new purpose for a guitar he had purchased during his travels in Singapore. Along with his sister Margaret and musician Noel Eadie, he co-founded the Gaelic band Na h-Òganaich. The group's talent and dedication earned them top honors at the 1972 Mod in Stirling, and they continued to win numerous prizes, solidifying their reputation as a premier Gaelic band.

Na h-Òganaich's popularity soon transcended borders, with the group touring extensively throughout the world. In the mid-1980s, Donnie's talents were further showcased in the Gaelic children's program Dòtaman. This innovative program introduced a new audience to Donnie's music and cemented his status as a beloved figure in Scottish popular culture. His distinctive hats and catchy songs made him a household name, with almost every resident of Scotland familiar with the charismatic Donnie Dotaman.
