Christopher Peter Meloni, born on April 2, 1961, is an American actor of great renown, particularly for his iconic portrayal of NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler on the NBC police drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from 1999 to 2013 and subsequently reprising his role as a series regular on the 2021 spinoff series Law & Order: Organized Crime.
In addition to his impressive work on Law & Order, Meloni has showcased his versatility as an actor by taking on a wide range of roles in various television shows. He played the character of Jimmy Liery in eight episodes of the critically acclaimed series NYPD Blue during 1996-1997, as well as the role of inmate Chris Keller on the HBO prison drama Oz.
Meloni's impressive television resume also includes his return to HBO in June 2012 as the vampire Roman on the main cast of the hit series True Blood for its fifth season. Furthermore, he starred in and executive-produced the Syfy series Happy! from 2017 to 2019, and appeared on the third season of The Handmaid's Tale as Commander Winslow in 2019.
