Chris Buck is a renowned film director, celebrated for his work on the animated features Tarzan and Surf's Up. In addition to his directorial credits, Buck has also made significant contributions as a supervising animator on Home on the Range and Chicken Little.
Buck's extensive experience at Disney includes overseeing the animation of three central characters in the 1995 animated feature Pocahontas, specifically Percy, Grandmother Willow, and Wiggins. He was also involved in character design for the 1989 animated blockbuster The Little Mermaid, experimented with animation for The Rescuers Down Under and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and served as an animator on The Fox and the Hound.
Chris Buck played a pivotal role in developing several films at Hyperion Pictures and worked as a directing animator on the feature Bebe's Kids. He also storyboarded director Tim Burton's live-action featurette Frankenweenie and collaborated with Burton again as directing animator on the Brad Bird-directed "Family Dog" episode of Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, as well as the subsequent primetime animated series.
In addition to his work on animated features, Buck has also created a number of animated commercials, including those featuring the Keebler Elves, for Los Angeles-based production entities such as FilmFair, Kurtz & Friends, and Duck Soup.
Born in Wichita, Kansas, Chris Buck studied character animation for two years at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts),where he later taught from 1988 to 1993.
