Carlos Saldanha, a renowned Brazilian director of animated films, was born on July 20, 1968, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With an insatiable passion for animation and artistic expression, Saldanha left his hometown in 1991 to pursue his dreams in the bustling city of New York. Drawing from his background in computer science and natural artistic inclination, he found the perfect fusion of skills in the city that never sleeps.
Saldanha's artistic journey began with his attendance at the MFA program at New York's prestigious School of Visual Arts, where he graduated with honors in 1993. During his time at SVA, he created two animated shorts, The Adventures of Korky, the Corkscrew (1992) and Time For Love (1993),which have been showcased at international animation festivals worldwide.
At SVA, Saldanha had the opportunity to collaborate with Chris Wedge, one of the co-founders of Blue Sky Studios, who extended an invitation for him to join their growing team of artists. Saldanha also worked as an animator on Wedge's short film Bunny, further honing his skills in the industry.
His subsequent directorial endeavors include Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006),Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009),and the co-direction of Ice Age (2002) and Robots (2005),cementing his reputation as a talented and innovative force in the world of animation.
