Harry "Buster" Merryfield, a renowned British actor, is most famously associated with his captivating portrayal of Uncle Albert in the extremely popular BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, a role he undertook from 1985 to 1996.
Prior to his successful acting career, Merryfield had a distinguished career as a bank manager, which he retired from in 1978. It was not until later in life that he decided to pursue acting professionally.
The origin of his stage name, Buster, dates back to his childhood, when his grandfather affectionately bestowed it upon him due to his impressive birth weight of nine pounds. This nickname stuck with him throughout his life, partly due to his reluctance to reveal his real name to anyone during his lifetime.
It wasn't until after his passing, which was caused by a brain tumour in 1999, that his real name became publicly known.
