Rebecca Sara "Becki" Newton, born on July 4, 1978, is a renowned American actress, best recognized for her captivating performances in television series such as Ugly Betty and How I Met Your Mother.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Becki Newton spent her formative years in Guilford, Connecticut, where she was raised with a rich cultural heritage of English and Czech descent. Her early beginnings in the world of performing arts began with her participation in local theater productions, and she later pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in European History at the University of Pennsylvania.
During her time at Penn, Newton was an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and honed her skills in various musicals and plays. After graduating, she relocated to New York City, where she landed several roles in television commercials for prominent companies like the Olive Garden.
Newton's breakthrough role came when she portrayed the character Amanda Tanen in the comedy-drama series Ugly Betty, which aired from 2006 to 2010. Alongside co-star Michael Urie, she co-hosted the Official Ugly Betty Podcast, and also appeared in ABC.com's Mode After Hours webisode series. Ugly Betty concluded its successful four-season run in 2010, allowing the show to receive a fitting series finale.
In late 2009, Newton took to the stage at the New York City Center Encores! presentation of the Gershwin musical Girl Crazy, which was directed by Jerry Zaks. She played the role of Molly Gray, performing alongside her real-life husband Chris Diamantopoulos.
Newton then starred in the television series Love Bites, a romantic comedy created by executive producer Cindy Chupack, who was also involved in the hit series Sex and the City. Although NBC initially picked up the show in May 2010, Newton's pregnancy, co-star Jordana Spiro's contract obligations, and Chupack's desire to depart the show led to a midseason push-back. Love Bites ultimately aired in summer 2011 on NBC and was cancelled after eight episodes.
In November 2011, Newton joined the cast of CBS's How I Met Your Mother as Quinn, a love interest for Neil Patrick Harris's character Barney Stinson. She currently stars in the Fox mid-season TV series The Goodwin Games.
Newton met her husband, Chris Diamantopoulos, in a New York City subway station and they tied the knot on May 12, 2005. In July 2010, it was announced that the couple was expecting their first child, and they welcomed a son in early November 2010.
Newton's older brother, Matt Newton, is also an actor, who guest-starred as the boyfriend of Ugly Betty character Marc St. James. Her mother, Jennifer, is an award-winning artist, and her aunt, Stephanie Chase, is a classical violinist.
