Barry Shabaka Henley is an American character actor born Barry Joseph Henley on September 15, 1954. He has had a prolific career, frequently collaborating with director Michael Mann, with whom he has worked on four occasions.
One of his most notable roles was as Herbert Muhammad in the film Ali. In the critically acclaimed movie Collateral, Henley impressed audiences with his portrayal of a sensitive jazz musician living on borrowed time. He also appeared in Steven Spielberg's The Terminal and had a starring role in the television series Miami Vice, where he succeeded Edward James Olmos as Lt. Martin Castillo.
In addition to his film work, Henley has had recurring roles in several television shows, including Robbery Homicide Division, Barbershop, and FlashForward, where he played FBI Agent Vreede from 2009 onwards. He also starred alongside Angela Bassett in the romantic comedy How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
Henley's upcoming projects include a role as Detective Fuller on the popular television series Heroes, which premiered in 2006. In 1999, he played the role of Pokerface in the comedy film Life, starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.
As a stage actor, Henley has received numerous accolades, including the Drama Desk, Obie, and Olivier Awards. He was also a member of the West Coast Black Repertory Theatre and the San Francisco Mime Troupe.
