Aubrey Christina Plaza was born on June 26, 1984, in the United States of America. As a teenager, she began her acting journey by performing in local theater productions. This early exposure to the stage helped her develop her skills, and she soon found herself performing improv and sketch comedy at the renowned Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
After completing her education at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Plaza made her feature film debut in the 2009 comedy-mystery film Mystery Team. Her breakthrough role, however, came when she played the character of April Ludgate on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation from 2009 to 2015. Her portrayal of the sarcastic and apathetic April earned her widespread recognition and acclaim.
In addition to her work on Parks and Recreation, Plaza has also made a name for herself in the film industry. She had a supporting role in the 2010 comedy film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and a leading role in the 2012 romantic comedy Safety Not Guaranteed. From 2017 to 2019, she portrayed the complex characters of Shadow King and Lenny Busker in the critically acclaimed FX series Legion.
Plaza's impressive resume also includes producing and starring in the 2017 black comedies The Little Hours and Ingrid Goes West. She has continued to appear in a wide range of films, including the romantic comedy Happiest Season and the thriller Black Bear, both released in 2020. In 2022, she starred in the crime film Emily the Criminal, which she also produced.
In addition to her acting and producing work, Plaza has received critical acclaim for her performance as a strait-laced lawyer in HBO's anthology series The White Lotus. Her portrayal earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine recognized her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.
