A wrongly convicted man, Jeff Hayes, is released from prison after 18 years, exonerated by new evidence discovered by a detective, including a missing necklace that was originally considered crucial to the case.

In 1972, Jeff Hayes was wrongly convicted of murdering a wealthy businessman's wife. 18 years later, a detective reopened the case, discovering a missing necklace and Jeff's innocence. After being pardoned and released, Jeff struggles to adapt to normal life, reuniting with his wife Ellen and rebellious teenage son Cary. He also takes a job writing a travel column for a magazine publisher, who turns out to be the businessman's son, and attempts to reconcile with his father and family.
