German-occupied Poland, summer of 1943. Hedwig, a mother of five, strives to maintain her organized life, but her husband, Rudolf Hoess, a distinguished SS officer and Auschwitz commander, is overwhelmed with work, including testing a new incineration oven system. As the horrors of the Final Solution unfold nearby, Hedwig's peaceful life is disrupted by noxious fumes and blood-curdling noises.
