A famous Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, is forced into exile on a small island due to his political beliefs. He finds an unlikely companion in a young, unemployed fisherman who is tasked with delivering Neruda's increasing mail load. Despite the fisherman's limited education, he discovers a passion for poetry and forms a strong bond with Neruda. As the fisherman struggles to find his place in the world, he turns to Neruda for guidance and support, particularly as he navigates his newfound love.
