The Odyssey background

The Odyssey

The film chronicles the remarkable 30-year journey of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, a pioneering filmmaker, researcher, and conservationist, as he explores the ocean and pushes the boundaries of human knowledge.

The documentary follows the life of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, a renowned researcher, scientist, inventor, and filmmaker, from 1949 to 1979. Despite his flaws, including infidelity and vainglory, Cousteau's charisma and leadership inspired the public to be more curious about the sea. The film concludes in 1979, when Cousteau is struggling to cope with the death of his son Philippe in a plane crash, but finds support and encouragement from his eldest son Jean-Michel to continue his mission.
