Gary Hart, a U.S. senator from Colorado, runs for the Democratic presidential nomination after losing in 1984. He challenges the press to follow him on weekends, but this backfires when photos of him with journalist Donna Rice are published. Hart tries to clear his name, but fails, and is forced to drop out of the campaign due to the scandal.
