Miyako Saijo, a famous singer, and Ichirô Aoye, a motorbiking artist, meet by chance in Kappazawa while on a retreat and painting expedition, respectively. They form a connection and are unaware that a paparazzo has taken a photo of them together, which is later used to fabricate a scandalous story. Ichirô decides to sue the publication, despite Miyako's reservations, and hires a lawyer, Otokichi Hiruta, who is initially perceived as an ambulance chaser. The case becomes a fight for justice and Ichirô's and Miyako's reputations, as well as a personal struggle for Hiruta to confront the consequences of his own actions.
