At a pension, Eva and her husband Josef take a nap, where they meet Robert, a solitary and enigmatic man. During their playtime, a key falls from Robert's pocket, prompting Eva's curiosity. She sets out on an investigation, which leads her to Robert's room, where she finds a mud-stained briefcase that he had previously left near her parsley patch. Inside, she discovers a date-stamp. Later, she learns about another woman found murdered, with a number and date stamped on her forehead. Convinced that Robert is the killer, Eva begins to unravel the mystery.
