In this sequel to The Year My Voice Broke, a teenage boy is sent to boarding school, where he faces bullying and abusive teachers. Despite the challenges, he forms a romantic connection with a student from a nearby girls' school, an African girl named Thandiwe. As their relationship grows, they face opposition from those around them. The film also features Nicole Kidman as a repressed senior at Thandiwe's school.
