Paula, an inspector for the Historic Trust, wraps up a project in the upper Midwest and heads home to Chicago. She's diverted to a new applicant's site, a once-proud steamship along an industrial waterfront, where her car is disabled and her life takes a drastic turn. She meets Vigs, the odd caretaker, and spends the night in a cramped stateroom. After a bad dinner, she's awakened by strange noises, leading her to uncover the truth about herself and her life.
