El verano que vivimos background

El verano que vivimos

A journalism student, Isabel, is sent to a Galician coastal town for her work placement. While there, she discovers an anonymous obituary for Lucía, which tells a tale of love, friendship, and betrayal set in 1958.

In 1998, Isabel, a young journalist, moves to Vigo, Spain to start her career, but is relegated to writing obituaries. When she receives an anonymous letter about a woman named Lucía, she becomes curious and convinces her boss to let her investigate. She discovers that the letters are written by Gonzalo, who has been writing them every year on the same day since 1983. Gonzalo has passed away, but his son Carlos is willing to work with Isabel to uncover the truth about Lucía. Their investigation takes them back to 1958, where they find a young Gonzalo in Jerez de la Frontera, working at a winery and falling in love with Lucía, who is promised to marry his best friend Hernán. However, their love is threatened by unexpected troubles, including Hernán's return and Adela's death. As Isabel and Carlos continue to investigate, they uncover the consequences of Adela's death and the ultimate fate of Lucía, and reflect on how the story has affected them.
