Wendy Carroll, a single mother, operates her late father's candy shop in the small town of Quinton. However, the bank threatens to foreclose on the business, forcing Wendy to move to Los Angeles with her daughter to find a seasonal job. She gets hired at Wolman's Department Store, a family-run business struggling financially. The store's new consultant, Teanna Musk, is tasked with turning the business around, but her methods clash with the store's traditional values. Meanwhile, Wendy and Tom, the store's nephew, develop feelings for each other, but Wendy is torn between her new life and her commitment to her hometown.
