In the American Old West, Stodge City is a law-abiding town where the sheriff, Albert Earp, has no work due to the judge's strict rules. However, everything changes with the arrival of Johnny Finger, a notorious outlaw who takes over the town and befriends Belle Armitage, the hotel operator. In response, the judge requests a peace marshal from Washington, sending Marshal P. Knutt, a sanitation engineer from England, to clean up the town. Despite his initial mistaken identity and profession, Marshal Knutt accepts the job and teams up with Annie Oakley, a demure woman he met on the coach, to take down the outlaw and restore order to Stodge City.
