In this period drama, set 29 years after the events of "God and the Devil in the Land of the Sun", Antonio das Mortes, a former killer of bandits, is tasked with eliminating a new Cangaceiro, Coirana, who has appeared in Jardim Das Piranhas. Initially, Antonio is eager to take on the challenge, but he soon discovers that Coirana is an idealist, leading a group of hopeless and hungry individuals. As Antonio gets to know Coirana and his followers, he begins to question his own motivations and feelings towards them.
