After Life background

After Life

In a world where the afterlife offers a unique opportunity, individuals are given a week to relive and choose one cherished memory to hold onto forever, leaving the rest to fade into eternity.

In this movie, a small office serves as a processing center for the souls of the recently deceased. Each Monday, new arrivals check in and are guided by "social workers" to relive their happiest memories. The workers recreate and film each memory, and the deceased watch the films at the end of the week. When they see their memory, they vanish to their next state of existence, taking only that memory with them. The story focuses on two counselors, Takashi and Shiori, as they help the deceased relive their memories and confront their own pasts.
