The Best Laid Plans background

The Best Laid Plans

To escape from political life, a frustrated speechwriter initiates a federal election campaign in a seemingly lost seat, backed by a peculiar candidate.

Disillusioned with Canadian federal politics' cynicism, speechwriter Daniel Addison feels disillusioned when he discovers his girlfriend going down on his politician boss. He finally resigns in frustration after being forced into running an election campaign for a hopeless riding and finding himself outmaneuvered by a party's chief political wonk. Daniel meets Angus McLintock, an eccentric engineering professor who agrees to run the campaign under specific conditions: Daniel teaches English for Engineers, and Angus does not campaign. With their dummy campaign in place, chaos ensues as these schemers find themselves in a race with unconventional goals that start to energize them. Now, inspired by the idealism of supporters, especially the lovely daughter of one veteran volunteer, Daniel faces an uphill battle to win despite his best efforts.
