Three contestants, including a returning champion, competed in a game of strategy on Press Your Luck. The game consisted of two rounds, each with two parts. In the first part, host Tomarken read a toss-up question, and the first contestant to signal in got to answer. The other two contestants then chose from three possible answers. Correct answers earned the first contestant three spins, while their opponents got one spin each. The contestants used their spins to accumulate cash and prizes on an 18-space board. One contestant controlled the board at a time, and they could stop the flashing cursor to win cash, prizes, or even lose their winnings to a Whammy. The Whammy was an animated devil who appeared when a contestant lost their winnings. Contestants could continue to press their luck or pass their remaining spins to an opponent. The game ended when a player landed on four Whammies, and the high scorer after two rounds was the winner. The show's most famous contestant, Michael Larson, memorized the flashing patterns of the gameboard cursor and won $110,000 in cash and prizes.
