In 907 AD, the Tang Dynasty is in disarray due to internal conflicts within the imperial family. Crown Prince Wu Luan's love for Little Wan is thwarted when his father takes her as his Empress. Wu Luan goes into exile, where he develops his skills in dance and music. His uncle's murder of the father and subsequent seizure of the throne and Empress sets off a chain of events. Wu Luan narrowly escapes assassination and returns to court, where the Emperor orchestrates Little Wan's coronation and sends Wu Luan to a distant land. However, the Emperor's midnight banquet on the 100th day of his rule sets the stage for a dramatic and deadly confrontation.
