A 67-year-old man, Hannes, is struggling to adjust to retirement after 37 years as a school caretaker and a fisherman. He's become distant from his family and is disapproving of his daughter's bank job promotion. His son is divorced and often brings his young son along. The family's matriarch, Anna, is long-suffering and often has to endure Hannes' intolerance and mood swings. After a near-drowning incident, Hannes begins to open up, and he and Anna have a moment of reconciliation. However, their relationship is soon put to the test when Anna suffers a severe stroke, leaving Hannes to care for her at home. The film is a poignant exploration of Hannes' journey as he learns to come to terms with his life and his emotions.
