Johnnie Bradfield, a southpaw boxer, wins the world lightweight title but is haunted by his dark past. After a reporter's death in his apartment, Johnnie goes on the run, using an alias to hide from authorities who believe he died in a car crash. He finds refuge at a farm in Arizona, where he meets six reform school kids and falls for their sister, Peggy. However, his new life is threatened by his desire to return to boxing and the determined NYPD detective who's convinced he's still alive.
