As war looms over Warsaw in 1939, the Zabinski couple, owners of the Warsaw Zoo, continue their daily routine unaware of the impending invasion by Germany. However, when the Luftwaffe's Stukas begin to bomb the city, their lives are turned upside down. With the zoo liquidated and many animals perishing, the couple turns it into a sanctuary to hide Polish-Jewish people in plain sight. Despite the risks, they shelter 300 persecuted individuals, refusing to yield to the Nazi threat.
