The Union background

The Union

The film explores the creation of Elton John and Leon Russell's collaborative album "The Union", brought to life by renowned producer T-Bone Burnett.

In 2009, Elton John reunites with his early mentor Leon Russell, inviting him to create a joint album. The process is captured on camera as John encourages Russell, recovering from brain surgery, to compose, play, and sing. Notable guests Neil Young, Brian Wilson, and Booker T. Jones join in for a few days of recording, with T Bone Burnett producing. The film features archival footage of Russell's early days as a studio musician, as well as interviews with Crowe and a montage of hits. The resulting album, "The Union," is released in October 2010, followed by a concert in Boston, and ultimately, a renewed friendship between the two musicians.
