In 1577, the Roman Inquisition and witch hunts ravaged the Kingdom of Naples, while the people lived in fear and misery. Amidst this turmoil, Don Carlos, a handsome Spanish nobleman, indulged in a forbidden affair with Sister Giulia, a powerful ecclesiastic who sought to become the convent's abbess. Giulia's lesbian desires were overshadowed by her ambition, and she used her charms to please Don Carlos, even when he requested her to spend a night with her niece, Sister Isabella, who was forced into the convent but secretly longed for a country boy. As the current abbess, Sister Lavina, approached death, Giulia and Carmela, a rival sister, engaged in a ruthless struggle for power, resorting to poisonings, traps, and false accusations. When the scandal came to light, the vicar Carafa, representing the Inquisition, oversaw a brutal trial in which sisters were tortured and forced to confess.
