In a German theatre after World War II, two British soldiers are tasked with holding a group of diverse and hostile refugees before repatriating them to their homelands. As tensions between Serb and Croat, resistance fighter and collaborator, Pole and Russian escalate, the soldiers struggle to maintain order. Despite a brief moment of unity sparked by the threat of plague, the refugees ultimately turn against the British, fueled by their collective resentment.
