The Boys & Girl from County Clare background

The Boys & Girl from County Clare

A group of Liverpudlians, led by Jimmy McMahon, aim to triumph in the 1965 Irish céilí music competition.

In the mid-1960s, two estranged brothers, John Joe and Jimmy, both skilled fiddlers, are reunited at a prestigious Irish music festival in County Clare, Ireland. The brothers, who have been feuding over a woman, are each leading their own ceili bands, but their traditional music is threatened by the influence of modern rock and roll. As the competition heats up, the brothers' animosity towards each other is matched only by their rival bands' desire to win. Meanwhile, romantic sparks fly between Jimmy's flautist, Teddy, and John Joe's pianist, Maisie's daughter, Anne, a talented young fiddler.
