Novelist Fred Blake, his wife Elizabeth, and their young son David are snowed in at their remote cabin in upstate New England. When Fred's brother Charlie, a bank robber on the run, arrives with his accomplices, the Blake's lives are turned upside down. Charlie's presence is complicated by his history with Elizabeth and his ongoing feud with their hired hand, Benjie. As the group prepares to leave the cabin, Fred plots to sneak out and alert the police, but things become increasingly tense as Charlie and Benjie's rivalry escalates.
