Photographed by celebrated cinematographer Edward Lachman, Scalpel is an exemplary slice of Southern-fried gothic. The movie follows a deranged surgeon, Dr. Phillip Reynolds, played by Robert Lansing, who has a plan to "reconstruct" a young woman's face in the image of his missing daughter to claim her inheritance.
