Captain Tom York is sent to warn General Custer at Little Big Horn, but instead finds the massacred 7th Cavalry and thousands of Sioux roaming the Black Hills. He tries to warn other regiments, but needs to find a telegraph office in Deadwood, where the townsfolk are oblivious to Custer's fate. York learns of a pair of Gatling Guns hidden nearby, owned by saloon beauty Dakota Lil McCoy, and must negotiate their surrender to help the remaining Cavalry regiments. However, the townsfolk are reluctant to give up the guns, and York must fight to recover them and deliver them to the incoming regiments, unaware of Custer's annihilation and the strength of the Sioux army.
