A former convict, CJ Tillman, is paroled back to his hometown of Compton after serving time in the California penal system. With no family or positive role models, CJ has spent his life in and out of prison, but a desire to change his ways after fathering a daughter inspires him to turn his life around. He finds a job and a place to live with a couple, Royce and Mable Henderson, but tension builds between CJ and Mable, who is struggling to cope with her husband's debilitating strokes. As their relationship spirals out of control, CJ faces danger and threats from a notorious drug dealer who wants him to return to his old ways.
