Margherita, a middle-aged film director, struggles with a crisis in her life. Professionally, she questions the relevance of her movies to the world around her, while her crew and actor Barry Huggins, of Italian-American descent, pose additional challenges. On a personal level, Margherita faces struggles, including a recent breakup, strained relationships with her teenage daughter, and her mother's serious illness, which she denies to cope with the reality of her situation.
