In the harsh winter of the Old West, a charming but uneducated man named John McCabe establishes a brothel and tavern in a young Pacific Northwest town. A savvy madam named Mrs. Miller arrives and offers her expertise to help McCabe run the business, with a promise of a share in the profits. As the establishment flourishes, McCabe and Mrs. Miller grow closer despite their vastly different intellects and values. However, when a large corporation discovers valuable mining deposits in the town, it sets its sights on buying out McCabe and the business.
