Lily, a 31-year-old claims analyst, returns to her childhood home to care for her ailing mother, Inez, 60. However, after Inez's health improves, she becomes increasingly possessive and manipulative, using guilt and lies to keep Lily from leaving. Inez's own loneliness and bitterness, stemming from her husband's abandonment years ago, drive her to sabotage Lily's relationships, particularly with her new coworker Larry, 40, who seems perfect for Lily.
